Emerging Concepts/Trading area expansion
Windermere, FL-based SAM SNEAD’S TAVERN
(founded in 1992) is preparing to open 4 new
taverns over the next year growing from 12 to 16
units (33% growth). According to concept owner Pat
Casey, their first location in GA will be opening in
Savannah next month, and a Port St. Lucie, FL
location will open in November. Locations are
opening up next year in Fort Myers, FL (Spring 2007)
and Jacksonville, FL (Summer 2007). The company is
also in negotiations for taverns in Washington, DC,
Scottsdale, AZ, Las Vegas, NV, and Mobile, AL. Per
person check averages are around $10-$30 per person
and are open for both lunch and dinner. Restaurants
average about 250 seats. Current locations are in
FL, HI, IN, PA, and in Quebec, Canada. The company
also operates the Taproom at Dubsdread in Orlando,
FL. All locations are licensed.
Manhattan Beach, CA-based ROBEK’S FRUIT
SMOOTHIES (founded in 1996) has increased 11
units during the period, from 85 to 96 locations
(13% growth). They have also just expanded into the
states of MA and IL. In a prior newsletter in May,
we reported 10% growth during the January-May ’06
period. Per person check averages are about $2-$6
per person. Units average around 1000 square feet.
Locations are in the states of AZ, CA, CT, FL, GA,
HI, IL, KS, MA, MD, MN, NM, NY, OH, TX, VA, WA and
the District of Columbia. More than 90% of
locations are franchised.
Re-emerging concepts
Seattle, WA-based TACO DEL MAR (founded in
1992), has increased 17 units, from 191 to 208 (9%
growth) during the period and expanded into the
states of AK, IA, and OK. Other trading areas are
AZ, CA, CO, ID, MT, NE, NV, OR, TX, UT, WA and
British Columbia, Canada. This quick serve Mexican
restaurant chain is open for lunch and dinner, with
check averages of about $3-$8 per person. Units are
about 1000 square feet and more than 90% of stores
are franchised. The company also offers catering.
New locations are set to open in El Dorado Hills, CA
(September) and in Woodland, CA later this
Fall.
Units increased/Trading area expansion
Palmdale, CA-based RED BRICK PIZZA (founded
in 1998) has increased by 3 locations this period,
from 59 to 62 and expanded operations into the state
of OR. They have increased 12 units since January
(19% growth). Per person check averages are $6-$12
per person and the service is quick casual. Delivery
and catering services are offered, as well as online
ordering from the company website. Locations are
in AZ, CA, FL, NM, NV, OR, and TX. More than 90% of
locations are franchised.
RAM INTERNATIONAL of Tacoma, WA (founded in
1971) has opened 2 new locations for the Rams
Restaurant concept during the period, from 13 to 15
units (15% concept growth) . Locations are
family/causal style with full bars and have around
300 seats. Cuisine is American with a per person
check average of $8-$20. Their multiple concepts
are: C. I. Shenanigan's (2), Cb & Potts (7),
Murphy's Steak & Seafood (1), Ram Restaurant (15)
and Stonehouse (1) bringing the new total to 26
units (8% growth). The restaurants are located in
CO, ID, IL, IN, OR, WA and WY.
Tulsa, OK based, SIMPLE SIMON'S PIZZA
(founded in 1982) has opened 5 new units during the
period. They have opened 3 units, growing from 227
to 230 units (1.3% concept growth) for the Simple
Simon’s concept. Additionally, they grew 2 units for
the Cheezie’s concept for a current total of 9
stores (29% concept growth). Concepts currently
trade in AL, AR, GA, IA, KS, LA, MO, MN, OK and TX.
Locations are quick serve with an average of 50
seats and open for lunch and dinner. All units are
franchised.
