Growing and emerging concepts

NATURE'S WAY CAFE based in North Palm Beach, FL (founded 1978) has increased by 2 units, from 12 to 14 (17% growth). These are fast casual sandwich stores offering breakfast and lunch. Units seat about 40 and catering is offered. Locations are more than 90% franchised and are in FL.

GOLDEN GAMING headquartered in Las Vegas, NV (founded 1982) has increased by 1 unit for its Sierra Gold concept, from 2 to 3 (50% concept growth) and by 2 units for its Pt's Gold concept, from 9 to 11 (22% concept growth). The overall company growth is from 40 to 43 (8% overall company growth). Units are casual with full bar and seating for about 250. Gaming and banquets are offered. The per person check average is around $6-$15+. Current concepts are: Gold Bar (1), Pt's Gold (11), Pt's Place (5), Pt's Pub (17), Sierra Gold (3), Sierra Junction (1) and Sparky's Pub & Poker (5). Locations are company owned and located in NV.

BIG AL'S PUB & GRUBBERIA of NC (founded 1996) has increased by 1 unit, from 3 to 4. These are family/casual units with full bar and seating for about 125. The per person check average is around $6-$15+. Units are 25% franchised and located in NC.

VIVID RESTAURANT CONCEPTS based in Nashville, TN has acquired Mississippi based Amerigo Restaurant Corp (founded 1987). The newly formed company has also increased by 1 unit and expanded into KY. The overall company increase is from 5 to 6 units (20% increase). Locations are family/casual with Italian cuisine and a full bar. Seating is for about 200 with catering and banquets offered. The check average is around $10-$30 per person. Current concepts are Amerigo (5) and Char Restaurant (1). Locations are in KY, MS and TN.

WHISKEY CREEK STEAKHOUSE based in Kearney, NE (founded 1995) has increased by 2 units, from 12 to 14 (17% growth). These are family/casual steakhouses with full bar and seating for around 200. The check average is around $10-$30 per person. Catering and banquets are offered. Locations are 21% franchised and are in FL, KS, MO and NE.

ROSEBUD RESTAURANTS INC headquartered in Chicago, IL (founded 1977) has increased by 2 units, from 9 to 11 (22% growth). These are upscale Italian restaurants with full bar and seating for about 100. The per person check average is around $15-$30+. Catering and banquets are offered. Current concepts are Ballo (1), Carmine's (1), Rosebud (6), Rosebud Steakhouse (1), Rosebud Express (1) and Rosebud Old World Italian (1). Locations are company owned and located in IL.

Atlanta, GA-based HOOTERS (founded 1983) has opened 7 units, from 429 to 436 (2% growth). They also closed 6 locations in New England, pulling out of the states of RI, MA and NH. This concept was previously featured in our 2/6/2007 newsletter (3% downsizing). The restaurants are family/casual American sports bars, open for lunch and dinner. Per person check average is $8-$20. All units have a full bar, with seating for about 200. Catering is available. 72% of locations are franchised. Restaurants are in the states of AK, AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, FL, GA, HI, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, ND, NE, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WA, WI, and WV, and in the provinces of AB, MB, and ON, Canada, and 21 other countries.

Carrollton, TX-based TGI FRIDAY'S (founded 1965) has opened 11 units for the TGI Friday's concept, from 866 to 877 (2% concept growth), while also closing their unit in Nova Scotia, Canada. The company has also closed 1 unit for their Pick Up Stix concept, from 125 to 124. Overall company increase of 20 units, from 991 to 1011. TGI Friday's restaurants are family/casual American style, with a full bar and seating for about 250. Per person check average is about $8-$20. All locations are open for lunch and dinner. Slightly more than half the units are franchised. Trading areas for Friday's are AK, AL, AR, AZ, BC, CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, FL,GA, HI, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, ON, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WA, WI and WV, with a location opening in Shreveport, LA later this year. The sister concept, Pick Up Stix is a fast casual Chinese concept, open for lunch and dinner, with a $4-$10 per person check average. No alcohol is served. Locations seat about 70. Less than 10% of the units are franchised. Catering and delivery are available. Trading areas for this concept are AZ, CA, and NV.

Fort Wayne, IN-based WINGS ETC has opened 4 units, from 8 to 12 (50% growth). The restaurants are full service, family/casual restaurants, serving beer and specializing in chicken wings. Per person check average is $6-$12, with seating for about 150. Meal periods are lunch and dinner. Locations are in the states of IL, IN, and MI. All units are franchised.

Wichita, KS-based BG BOLTON'S GRILLE & BAR (founded 2003) has opened a new unit in OK, making this the first location outside of KS. BG Bolton's has gone from 1 to 2 units. The company also operates another concept called Heroes Sports bar (1 unit). The restaurants are family/casual American bar and grills, with a per person check average of $6-$15+. All units are open for lunch and dinner, with a full bar. Seating is for about 300. Banquet rooms are available.

Coralville, IA-based PANCHERO'S MEXICAN GRILL (founded 1992) has opened 5 units during the period, from 40 to 45 (13% growth) and has entered into the states of NC, PA, and TX. This concept was last featured in our 11/7/2006 newsletter (21% growth). The restaurants are fast casual, serving Mexican cuisine. Meal periods are lunch and dinner, with a $4-$10 per person check average. Beer and wine is served. Seating is for about 80. More than half of locations are franchised. The restaurants are in the states of CO, FL, IA, IL, MI, MN, NC, NE, PA, SD, TX, and WI.
