Growing concepts

Deerfield, IL-based COSI SANDWICH BAR (NASDAQ: COSI, founded 1999) has opened 15 units during the period, from 118 to 133 (13% growth). The company was previously featured in our 11/21/06 newsletter (19% growth). Stores are fast casual sandwich shops, serving a full bar with a $4-$10 per person check average. Locations are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with seating for about 80. Catering and online ordering are available. Trading areas are CA, CT, DC, FL, IL, KY, MA, MD, MI, MN, NJ, NY, OH, PA, VA, WA, and WI. 15% of locations are franchised.

Charlotte, NC-based BOJANGLES' FAMOUS CHICKEN & BISCUITS (founded 1977), has opened 19 units, from 352 to 371 (5% growth). This company was mentioned in our 6/27/06 newsletter (3% growth). These quick serve chicken restaurants are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a $2-$6 per person check average. Seating is for about 50. Locations are in AL, FL, GA, MD, NC, NY, PA, SC, TN, VA, Honduras, and Mexico. More than 60% of units are franchised.

Columbus, MS-based EAT WITH US (founded 1982) has opened 2 units for its Sweet Peppers concept, from 8 to 10. Overall company growth is from 15 to 17 (13% company growth). Sweet Peppers locations are fast casual, with a $3-$8 per person check average and seating for about 80. The company also operates Bulldog Deli (1), Grill (2), Harvey's (3), and Park Heights (1). Park Heights is fine dining, while Grill and Harvey's are family style grill and bar restaurants. Banquet service is available at Harvey's and Park Heights. Catering is offered at Sweet Peppers. Trading areas are AL, MS, and TN. About 30% of locations are franchised. A new Grill location is planned to open in Tupelo, MS this summer.
