A weekly newsletter covering public and private restaurant chains featuring under-reported unique facts relating to growth. Pertinent information is gathered, verified and analyzed in-house using proprietary methods created in our research and library departments. Growing concepts

Boisbriand, Quebec-based CHEZ CORA (founded 1987), has opened 5 units during the period, from 81 to 86 (6% growth) and expanded into the province of AB. Other locations are in MB, NB, NL, NS, ON, PE, and PQ. The restaurants are family/casual American style cuisine, open for breakfast and lunch, with a $4-$10 per person check average. Beer and wine is served. Restaurants seat about 125. More than 90% of locations are franchised.

Sandy, UT-based COSTA VIDA FRESH MEXICAN GRILL (founded 2003), has increased by 4 units, from 16 to 20 (25% growth) and entered 3 new states (CA, OR, TX). This company was mentioned twice before in our 2/28/06 newsletter (57% growth) and on 10/24/06 (23% growth). Overall the company had a one-year increase of 9 units, from 11 to 20 (82% growth). These fast casual Mexican restaurants are open for lunch and dinner, with a $3-$8 per person check average and seating for about 50. More than 90% of locations are franchised. Three new locations are planned (Roseville, CA in May, Loveland, CO and Ogden, UT in June).

CEDAR RIVER SEAFOOD based in Orange Park, FL (founded 1986) has opened a new location in Valdosta, GA. There are now 11 units in this family/casual seafood chain. The locations seat about 175 and offer banquet services. The per person check average is about $10-$30 with beer and wine served. Locations are in FL and GA.

MODERN MEXICAN RESTAURANTS of New York, NY has opened a new concept called La Sandia in Denver CO. Overall the company has increased by 3 units, from 6 to 9 over the last three periods (50% one-year growth). Concepts tend to be upscale with full bar, seating for around 150 and a per person check average of $15-$30+. Current concepts are Isla (1), La Sandia (1), Maya (3), Pampano (1), Tamayo (1) and Zengo (2). Units are in CA, CO, DC, NV and NY.
