A weekly newsletter covering public and private restaurant chains featuring under-reported unique facts relating to growth. Pertinent information is gathered, verified and analyzed in-house using proprietary methods created in our research and library departments. Growing concepts

Oak Forest, IL-based BEGGAR'S PIZZA (founded 1976), has opened 2 units during the period, from 8 to 10 (25% growth) and expanded into the state of IN. All other locations are in IL. These family/casual pizzerias are open for lunch and dinner, serving beer, with a $6-$15+ per person check average. Units on average seat about 100. Catering and delivery services are available. Most locations have private party facilities. An 11th unit will be opening in Crown Point, IN, in May 2007.

Burlington, WA-based BOB'S BURGERS & BREW has opened 2 locations, from 6 to 8 (33% growth). The concept is family/casual, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with an $8-$20 per person check average. Restaurants have a full bar and seating for about 150. Catering and private party services are available. Less than 20% of locations are franchised.

New York, NY-based MARIO BATALI RESTAURANTS has opened 2 new concepts, Del Posto (1) and Pizzeria Mozza (1), while also closing their Bistro Du Vent restaurant (1). Overall company increase is from 7 to 8. Other concepts include Babbo (1), Bar Jamon (1), Casa Mono (1), Esca (1), Lupa (1), and Otto Enoteca (1). The opening of Pizzeria Mozza marks the expansion into the state of CA (all other restaurants are in NY). The company is also planning to open Osteria Mozza in Los Angeles this spring, as well as 2 new concepts at the Venetian casino in Las Vegas (B & B Ristorante and Enoteca San Marco), also this spring. The restaurants are upscale concepts, with multiple cuisine types. On average, the restaurants seat about 80-100 people, with full bar service, and $15-$30 per person check average. Catering and private party services are available.

Denver, CO-based SPICY PICKLE SUB SHOP (founded 1999), has increased by 3 units, from 17 to 20 (18% growth) and entered into NV. This company was previously mentioned in our 10/24/06 newsletter for their 5 unit, 42% growth in that period. These fast casual sandwich restaurants are open for lunch and dinner, with a $3-$8 per person check average. Units have seating for about 30. Catering and delivery are available. More than 90% of locations are franchised. Restaurants are currently in the states of CA, CO, NV, OR, SD, and TX, with more units planned for this year in AZ, NY, IL, VA, MS, IN, and OH. This company also ranked #5 on our January ’07 Top Ten Growing Concepts list.
