Explosive growth/Emerging concepts

Covington, LA-based WOW CAFÉ & WINGERY (founded 2001) has increased by 10 units, from 20 to 30 (50% growth) and has just entered into the states of GA, MD, MN, MO, NC, TX and DC, with new locations to open in PA, NJ, and VA over the next few months. These fast casual chicken restaurants have a per person check average of $4-$10, serving beer, with seating for 90. Meal periods are lunch and dinner, with catering and delivery available. More than 80% of locations are franchised. Other trading areas are IL, LA, MT, NM, NY, and WI.

Meal preparation company, LET'S DISH of Burnsville, MN (founded 2003) has increased by 10 units during the period from 19 to 29 units (53% growth). The company has grown a total of 20 new locations over the last 3 periods from 9 to 29 units (222% one year growth). We first wrote about this company in our May 9, ’06 newsletter. The units are currently located in KS, MA, MD, MN, MO, VA, WA and they are newly trading in NY, NJ, NC and OH. Stores are 83% franchised.

Growing/Emerging concepts

Bradenton, FL-based, PEACH’S RISE & DINE RESTAURANTS (founded 1985) has increased by 2 units, from 10 to 12 (20% growth) and entered into the state of OH. All other locations are in FL. These family/casual, American restaurants are open for breakfast and lunch, with a per person check average of $6-$12. Units seat about 150. Catering is available. Three units are expected to open in the Springtime in OH. More than 90% of locations are company owned & operated.

JIM N NICK'S BBQ based in Birmingham, AL (founded 1985) has increased by 4 units, from 16 to 20 (25% growth) and expanded into CO. These are family/casual BBQ restaurants with full bar and seating for about 100. They are open for lunch and dinner with a per person check average of $4-$10. Catering services are available. Stores are company owned and located in AL, CO, FL, GA, SC and TN. There are plans to open a new location in Prattville, AL, February ’07.

CHARLEY'S GRILLED SUBS of Columbus, OH (founded 1986) has increased by 8 units from 209 to 217 (4% growth). This is a quick serve sandwich concept with seating for about 30 and a per person check average of $2-$6. Catering is offered. The locations are currently in AL, AZ, CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, HI, IL, IN, KY, MA, MD, MI, MO, NC, NJ, NM, NY, OH, OK, ON, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WI and there is one location in Guam. Units are more than 90% franchised.
