Review of
Taco Del Mar Unit Growth Over Time
To illustrate a typical analysis, we have included
a portion of a company study performed on Taco Del
Mar for one of our clients.
The Taco Del Mar sample includes the database record
with 32 fields of information. We can produce trend
analysis using 22 of these fields. Our focus is on
unit growth and we update each company at least 3
times a year (both public and private companies).
The sample includes a chart of Taco Del Mar’s
growth.
Finally, the sample includes an in-depth look at
the entire Mexican/Fast Casual segment in our 2000
chain database. Taco Del Mar is the unit leader in
the segment with 233 units. Our study shows the dominant
chains in the segment tend to have a $4 - $10 check
average, serve beer and wine and use Sysco for their
Primary Supplier.

Taco Del Mar has almost doubled the number
of units in the last 2 years. This chart shows unit
counts in our 6 data verification updates. After a
short breather in late-2005, they have resumed their
rapid growth strategy.

– Position in their Mexican/Fast Casual segment
Taco Del Mar is one of 30 Mexican concepts with a
Fast Casual service style in our database. Their 233
units represent 25% of the group total 943. Of the
30 companies, only 7 have a check average between
$4 and $10. Although these 7 chains represent only
23% of the sample, they account for almost 57% of
units.
All 7 chains with a check average in the $4-$10 range
have either a Beer/Wine license (6) or Full Bar (1).
The 11 companies (36.7%) who chose to avoid licensing
for sale of alcohol account for 19.2% of units.
Taco Del Mar leads the Mexican/Fast Casual segment
in our survey. Taco Cabana, the number two chain in
unit count with 141 units, enjoys a higher average
unit volume. Together they represent almost 40% of
all units in the 30-chain segment.
Coincidently, they both use Sysco as their Primary
supplier.
